He was an unneutered  tom that showed up one day infront of our home.

We tried shooing him away - he went off a little distance and sat down, looking straight at us.
We were intrigued, and approached him to take a closer look - and discovered that he had wounds at his temple, all encrusted with blood and pus. We brought him to the vet, and found out that he had severe ear-mite infestation - the wounds on his temple were self-inflicted, where he had scratched in desperation at the terrible itch.

We were staying in a small apartment in the city then, already had 6 cats, and couldn't take him in.
We fed him twice a day, and treated his ears and wounds. It must have been painful, as we had to rub off the encrusted blood and plasma and pus, wash with antiseptic, and put drops in his ears for the mites.

It was a long and slow healing process.
As he was roaming the streets, we couldn't put on a "lampshade" collar to prevent him bothering his wounds - and that he would do, when the itch became unbearable. So it was very much a 3-step-forward-2-step-back process.
But he seemed to trust us, coming back faithfully for his treatments. 

He was accepted by the street kittens we were also looking after, and became their surrogate dad/mum! ^^
When we moved to our current home, we brought all of them with us.
