Her story continues ...
We noticed that everytime we reached to pet her head, she would shrink. In subsequent talks with our neighbours, who knew Mig's previous owner, we discovered the reason. The husband of Mig's previous owner had a houserule - no cats in the house. They had a huge garden, so that should be alright, except that Mig liked going into the house and sleeping on the sofa. When the husband came home, he would smack Mig. So, for Mig, a hand reaching for her is NOT good!
We reassured her constantly, and it didn't take her long to learn to sprawl and sleep on the bed without any fear. But it took a couple of years of patient gentle attention before she learned to like being petted on the head.
